Interactive operations need to be executed rapidly. Some operations will have more stringent performance needs than others. For example, rotating an aperture should be done with almost no perceptible delay, while committing an exposure update could take a few seconds.
The system will be supported for SUN UNIX and Windows/NT. Based on experience with the Visual Target Tuner, it appears that among Sun workstations, an Ultra 1 running Solaris 2.5.1 is a minimal requirement. We will need Solaris 2.6 in the near future, in order to support the new release of Java. Personal computers running Windows/NT with a 300 MHz processors and 64MB of memory will provide adequate performance.
