As part of the preparation for this mission, an input catalogue containing the best available data for all stars to at least 11th magnitude was created. By merging these data with the GSC, we were able to add the missing bright star data to provide a complete all-sky catalogue down to the GSC limiting magnitude. In addition, many of the false objects due to artifacts around the halos and diffraction spikes of the bright stars were identified and corrected as well as a number of reported errors. A number of astrographic plates centered on southern hemisphere bright stars (m<3) were also processed and added to the catalogue. This is the version currently used by HST operations and published to the community. APT Tool: VTT interfaces to it Product Info: http://www-gsss.stsci.edu/gsc/gsc.html (Brian Mclean) 2) Tool: GSC2 Function: A newer version of GSC. APT/RPS2 Tool: APT testing tool Yearly Maintenance: Free Product Info: http://www.junit.org/ 19) Tool: koala.jar Function: Koala provides the ability to perform serialization to XML. It is used for the SEA and VTT "session" saving/loading. At the time it was necessary, but now the benefit is not really there (although it doesn't hurt). It would not be a bad idea to remove the need for this (and would be easy to do, except it would make existing session saves non-backward compatible).
